Avatar Slideshow refers to a viral series of bait-and-switch TikTok slideshows in which users include rule 34 images of characters from Avatar in the slides following the first, beginning with a SFW image from the film series. The earliest known NSFW Avatar slideshow was posted by TikToker @wavey.xxxnf in mid-July 2023, with further slideshows appearing on the app over the following weeks, inspiring reactions and memes about them.

Origin

On July 14th, 2023, TIkToker @wavey.xxxnf reportedly uploaded a slideshow beginning with an image of the Avatar character Netayam, followed by an image of the character nude in the second slide, garnering an unknown number of views before it was removed. The slideshow became the subject of reactions that day. For example, TikToker^[1] @mfkdariiuss posted a video reacting to it, garnering over 5.4 million views in a month (shown below, left). TikToker^[2] @ntyxms posted a similar meme reacting to it, garnering over 8 million views in a month (shown below, right).

That day, TikToker^[4] @mma_rea posted a bait-and-switch meme where it appears as though they're showing the slideshow, garnering over 7.6 million views in a month (shown below, left). On July 20th, TikToker^[9] @noouva reacted to it, garnering over 13 million views in a month (shown below, right). Twitter^[5] user @spenx19 shared the full slideshow that day, garnering over 400 likes in a month. On July 23rd, Average Being^[6] reported on the trend.

On July 31st, TikToker^[7] @callmemar5 posted a video sharing that there was a new version of the Avatar slideshow posted, garnering over 3.5 million views in four days (shown below). On August 1st, TIkToker^[8] @shuggerxd shared a similar video of yet another example of the trend, garnering over 36,000 views in three days.
