About
Angry Goofy also known as Goofy Driving Angry is an exploitable image of Goofy angrily driving with his son Max, taken from the 1995 Disney animated movie A Goofy Movie. An image from the scene became the subject of memes, including Photoshops and image macros, as early as 2012. The meme saw a resurgence in December 2023 by way of redraws, where artists drew their comfort characters in place of Goofy, Max and a third party in the back seat of the car.
Origin
In 1995, A Goofy Movie was released. In one scene, Goofy is distraught that his son Max changed his road map to go to Los Angeles instead of the fishing trip he planned. During the car ride, Goofy asks Max if he should go left or right at the junction on the highway. After doubting where, to go, Max yells, "Left!" Goofy turns left, narrowly hitting the junction point. Goofy expresses anger and disappointment in Max (shown below).
A screenshot of the scene first became the subject of memes as early as 2012. One of the earliest examples was posted to the bronieschile Blogspot[1] page on January 26th, 2012, depicting Goofy driving with Patrick Star and Fluttershy (shown below).
That same year, numerous examples of the scene used as an image macro format were uploaded to Know Your Meme, seemingly archived from various 4chan boards (examples shown below).
Spread
The scene continued to be a popular subject of memes throughout the mid-2010s, inspiring redraws and photoshops. On April 8th, 2012, ColorsLive[2] user bsgreym posted a redraw made using a Nintendo 3DS featuring Patrick Star and Yoshi in the car (shown below). Several examples were uploaded to Deviant Art[3][4][5] between 2012 and 2016.
2023 Redraw Trend
On December 26th, 2023, X[6] user @captaintaco2345 posted the version of the meme showing Goofy driving with Fluttershy and Patrick, writing, "Draw your comfort characters like this," garnering over 45,000 likes and 9,000 reposts in three days.
The post inspired numerous examples over the following days under the quote-reposts. For example, on December 27th, X[7][8] users @SyntheticMutt and @ArtJjgg posted redraws of the meme that gained over 8,100 likes and 42,000 likes respectively in two days (shown below, left, center). On December 28th, X[9] user @P1NKMIC posted a version that gained over 6.600 likes in a day (shown below, right).
