The trend was popularized in October of 2022 among artists on Facebook and Twitter, inspiring discussions and parodies of it on social media.

On October 18th, 2022, Facebook[1] user 李嘉 shared a screenshot of AI art depicting Maki Nishikino from Love Live eating a bowl of ramen with her hand instead of chopsticks to the "LoveLive! 吹水區" group. The post received 314 reactions and 364 shares. Hours later, Facebook[2] user HardluckedAsh But Worse uploaded the same AI art and received more than 2,900 reactions and 3,000 shares in three days (shown below).

On October 19th, 2022, Twitter[3] user @umecha1128 uploaded AI art of Madoka Higuchi from Idolmaster: Shiny Colors eating ramen with both of her hands. The tweet received more than 18,700 retweets and 79,800 likes in two days (shown below).
That day, the character became popular in parodies and human-drawn fan art about how she eats ramen in the image. For example, on October 18th, 2022, Twitter[4] user @mn38ka uploaded a fan comic about the AI Madoka eating ramen directly with her mouth while the real character Madoka stood shocked behind her. The tweet received more than 3,400 retweets and 11,800 likes in two days (shown below, left). The next day, Twitter[5] user @azu_ankoowl uploaded fan art of Madoka eating ramen and looking nervous due to the recent trend. The tweet received more than 5,500 retweets and 21,000 likes in one day (shown below, right).
The trend also sparked various memes. For example, on October 19th, 2022, Facebook[6] user Dimas Ilza uploaded an "every masterpiece has its cheap copy" edit that received 205 reactions and 507 shares in two days (shown below, left). The next day, Facebook[7] page Love Live Memes uploaded a Hello Yoshi From Super Mario edit that received 356 reactions and 98 shares in one day (shown below, right).
