Accepting Your Death is an exploitable image macro series featuring an illustration of a woman lying on her death bed with the caption "accepting your death," which is typically accompanied by scenarios in that leave a person feeling defeated and depressed.
Origin
The illustration was originally part of a "How to Die Peacefully" article on WikiHow,[3] though it has since been removed from the article.[7] On December 18th, 2014, Twitter user @leyawn[1] posted several illustrations of people laying on their death bed, purportedly taken from a Wikihow article on how "to die" (shown below).
Spread
On May 1st, 2015, the @bitchy.tweets[6] Instagram page posted the illustration along with the caption "how to get ready for exams" (shown below, left). Over the next two years, the post garnered upwards of 20,400 likes. On October 22nd, the Colorful Memes Facebook[5] page posted a Metal Gear-themed photoshop of the "Accepting Your Death" illustration (shown below, right).
On May 8th, 2016, the Crippling Memes Facebook[4] page posted a photoshop of the image with the Call of Duty logo superimposed over the woman's head (shown below, left). On December 28th, the Sarcasm Society Facebook[2] page posted the illustration with the caption "When you tell your best joke with perfect timing and nobody laughs" (shown below, right).
